Everything you need to plan a trip that fits your van
Hopstead brings routing, stays, days and the details together in one plan. Here's what each part does.
Plan it in plain English
Tell Hopstead something like "a week-long loop from Manchester through the Lake District and back along the coast" and it drafts a complete plan - where to stay, how the days break down and what to do each one - with every stop checked against a real, geocoded place. Review it, keep what you like, and it becomes a trip you can edit like any other.
Vehicle-aware routing
Set up a vehicle profile with height, weight and length, and routing uses a heavy-vehicle profile that steers around low bridges and unsuitable roads. Your vehicle's size also filters the overnight-stop suggestions, so you won't be pointed at a pitch that can't take your length.
Drive or ferry, leg by leg
Island-hopping or crossing the water? Flip any leg from road to ferry and Hopstead draws the port-to-port crossing instead of trying to route a road, with an estimated time at sea - or drop in your own crossing time from the timetable. Mix drive and ferry legs freely across a single trip.
Overnight-stop suggestions
Set a comfortable daily drive budget and Hopstead flags legs that run over. One tap suggests overnight stops in the corridor along your route, ranked by how little they detour you, what there is to do nearby, and the quality of the stay. Accept the ones you like; reject the rest and it re-scores.
Day-by-day itineraries
Every stay automatically breaks into days, from arrival to departure. Plan what you'll actually do each day and build the trip the way you'll live it, rather than as one continuous drive.
Keep a trip journal
Planning is only half the trip. As you go, jot down how it really unfolded right where it belongs: a note on the day you took the train along the coast, the lunch stop and drive time on a leg, or what the campsite was like. Track costs in any currency - fuel and tolls on the journey, food and pitches on the day - and add photos to any entry. Spot a mistake later? Edit or delete it. Everything rolls up into a running spend total, so the plan quietly becomes the diary of the trip you took.
Interest-ranked things to do
Pick the things you care about - castles, viewpoints, beaches, walks, nature, history, towns - and nearby points of interest are ranked to match, weighted by distance and popularity. Add any of them straight onto a day.
Fuel Finder
Hopstead surfaces fuel stations within a short detour of your route and sorts them cheapest-first, with the distance to each, so you can plan a fill-up without paying motorway prices.
AI trip ideas
Ask for ideas near any stay and Hopstead proposes places to visit - then verifies each one against a real, geocoded location before showing it, so you get genuine spots rather than invented ones.
Publish to the gallery
Proud of a route? Publish it to Hopstead's public gallery, grouped by country, where anyone can explore the stays, days and things to do - and import the whole thing as an editable starting point for their own trip. Unpublish whenever you like; your link stays reserved.
Read-only sharing
Generate a share link and travel companions can see the whole itinerary, stays and stops in a clean read-only view. Revoke it any time.
Bring your saved places
Export your saved places from Google Takeout and upload the file - Hopstead reads your lists (Want to go, Favourites, your own named lists and more), keeps each as its own list, and pins them to real, geocoded locations. Sort them into "want to visit" and "visited", then drop any of them straight onto a trip. One-tap navigation into Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze is still there for every stop when it's time to drive.
Parking & legality flags
Known restriction zones - no-overnight areas, permit-only spots, seasonal orders - show on the map and flag affected stops, with the restriction type, season and when it was last checked. Always advisory: check the signs on the ground too.
